School Visits

I offer school visits nationally and internationally for children in UK years 3-8 or equivalent. My visits usually involve an interactive talk with a larger group, and then several workshops with smaller groups.

My talk covers my journey as a writer and my inspiration for books, plus how to build a story from the world around you.

My workshops encourage children to create beautiful language and step outside of the normal writing rules in order to be creative and spontaneous. We focus on sensory imagery and writing from new perspectives, as well as coming up with the best ingredients for a story. I am very happy to work with schools to create a timetable that suits your pupils’ needs - just get in touch.

I have extensive experience working in a range of schools, including with children with special needs, and I am DBS checked.

I charge a daily fee plus, if applicable, overnight stay and standard class rail travel or mileage.

If you are a private school, I ask that you either invite a local state partner school to join or that you are happy to pay a small surcharge to enable me to offer discounts to schools with high levels of pupil premium. Some private schools also choose to pay my day rate entirely themselves but split my day between their site and their local state school.

I believe all children should have the opportunity to experience author visits, and I will always try to make allowances for budgets but this is my work, and therefore I do have to charge schools a fee regardless of their circumstances.
